“Theplace2b’s mission is to help youth, ages 14-18, develop hope, increase resiliency and create successful lives of which they can be proud.

Theplace2b is a safe haven for homeless and displaced youth in Rock Island and Scott Counties, located in the YWCA Annex in downtown Rock Island at 1600 2nd Avenue.

The center is open from 4:00-8:00 pm, Monday through Friday, providing warmth, food, clothing, shelter, homework help, creative programming, and counseling for the youth.”

HMC4 Vendor Spotlight – Rozz-Tox!

It’s that time again, vendor spotlights! We will be posting a new spotlight every weekday until our event. To kick things off we thought we would start with our pals over at Rozz-Tox, after that we will be posting vendors from Z to A!

For those of you who have never been to Rozz-Tox, you are truly missing out. Tucked away on the edge of  the District of Rock Island, just far enough away from the routine stops but close enough to action and definitely considered one of the District’s front runners for remarkable music, art and performance. In addition to all the pros they have going for them (amazing restored building, fabulous coffees and teas, unique art, poetry night, good beer, great music, gourmet cupcakes…) they happen to be some of the nicest people we have met! Taken straight from their website, this statement describes the venue best:

“We opened Rozz-Tox on April Fool’s Day 2011 with the intention of creating a cultural space by blending aspects of a café, music venue, gallery and bookshop into one all ages venue. We are open to all genres of music and art with the only requirement being that it is original. We are promoting creativity, not replication or mindless entertainment. We like to refer to this venue as a canvas – an evolving work that’s never finished. We welcome artists of all artistic disciplines to be a part of this.”

Handmade City held our Spring 2011 & Holiday 2011 events at Rozz-Tox last year. We are excited to have them be a part of HMC4. They will be selling coffee and cupcakes at the event – you must stop and say hello! Visit them before our event at: 2108 3rd Ave Rock Island, IL 61201 or check ’em out online at rozztox.com and their facebook page!
