Can you believe it has been a month since Handmade City took over Bucktown for HMC4?! Time flys when you’re having fun! We haven’t had much time the past few weeks to sit and type our official show recap post. So here is our best attempt at a sorta-recap & THANK YOU to all everyone who made Handmade City’s fourth show a success.
Bucktown Center for the Arts was such an awesome space and we had a lot of people come up and tell us how much they liked the venue. Did you like HMC4 there? We loved the openness and exposed elements of this historic building and we were very welcomed by the Bucktown artists and shops. Everyone was so nice! We would like to especially thank Brittany Klarkowski, Bucktown’s Galleria Manager for helping us set-up and get situated comfortably. She also helped promote the event heavily through the Spring leading upto the event. She managed to juggle moving into a new house the same weekend as HMC4 too – crazy! Remember Bucktown is open all year, visit their website to learn more about special events and artist studios!
Rozz-Tox rocked it at HMC4! Every time we looked over they were cranking out some fresh coffee for our shoppers and cupcakes were flying off the table. Thanks Ben and Donnie for bringing the caffeine! We absolutely love Rozz-Tox and hope to keep them as a part of our future events. If you didn’t have a chance to check out Rozz-Tox during our HMC2 & HMC3 events you really missed out and should visit them now. They are open Tuesdays–Sundays. It is such a great space, staff and menu – the perfect hangout vibe with art & music galore.
Handmade City volunteers unite! Sarah, Luanne, Amber and Alex you gals were a huge help directing shoppers, answering questions and hanging at the HMC merch table. Thanks so much for sticking around all day with us. We would love to have you back at the next event!
Thank you HMC4 Vendors. We can not tell you how many people told us how awesome the vendors at this show were! Everyone was very impressed with the level of quality that you guys rocked. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful collaboration of artists supporting the handmade movement. Not only were you all very chic but so nice and easy going! Thanks for helping us put on such a great event and we most definitely will keep you posted on future shows!
Leah and Lewis took over a hallway around noon and jammed some lovely tunes for our crowd. Thanks so much for playing!
Shoppers & Supporters, thank you so much for attending this event and purchasing from our vendors. We know that our collaborative artists are amazing and make amazing stuff but it is refreshing to meet so many Quad Citians who feel the same way! We are excited for what the Summer brings, with a few mini events up our sleeve we will be more than busy crafting away until Handmade City Holiday plans roll in. Expect to see applications for our Holiday event open at the end of Summer. Tentativly planned for the first week in December 2012, we will keep you updated through our site and facebook page. We also have a mailing list and if you would like to be on it, email us: handmadecityinfo (at) gmail.com . As far as the mini events we have planned for Summer 2012, we will post more information in the very new future. Check back soon!
Our good friends at Adventure Orange will once again be hanging at Handmade City for tomorrow’s event. In fact it almost wouldn’t be an event if these ladies were there. Cool DIY divas making things like clothing, toys, jewelry… we love it all! If you haven’t already stopped by their bricks & mortar location you must! They are located in the Village of East Davenport at 2218 East 11th street. You can browse the Adventure Orange Facebook page to see pics of their most recent work and learn about the DIY classes they currently offer.
Handmade City virgin Totes & Toggles is today’s featured vendor. We love theses colorful bags by Davenport designer Maggie Gripp! Nothing but cute fabric and high quality designs – all handmade of course! Maggie makes more than purses though. You will find checkbook covers, mini wristlets, crayon totes, messenger bags and mini clutches (an adorable mini version of her full size clutches) over on the Totes and Toggles facebook page. Stop by her page to see more pretty designs. Totes & Toggles does custom orders and has many fabric options to chose from so you can mix and match your favorite swatches. We are excited to have Maggie as a part of our handmade community!
Klarkowski Pottery is today’s fabulous vendor spotlight! Working out of her Davenport (Bucktown) studio, Brittany Klarkowski creates quality, timeless design. We just love the combination of functionality and sophistication that Brittany manages to craft in each piece. This will be Klarkowski Pottery’s first Handmade City event and we are looking forward to having them as a part of our creative collective. Make sure to give Brittany a warm HMC welcome on December 3rd!

Dilly Baby IS hip gifts for women and kids! Working out of Davenport Iowa, Miss Amiee Marie (designer & owner of DB) had one of the most popular booths at last year’s HMC Holiday event. We are very happy to have her with us again this year and we hope you are too! Dilly Baby has a successful online shop over on Etsy.com where it recently sold it’s 2,000th sale last month and is already up to sale #2040! You can also buy directly from Dilly Baby through it’s newly redesigned website dillybaby.com. If you can make it past the insane urge to impulse buy off the site and are going to wait until December 3rd to pick something up, here is a tip: you better make sure to snatch up your Dilly Baby goodies fast! Aimee’s items were such a big hit last year that she ended up selling out of a few. We know we are gonna get ours right away!
It should come as no surprise that The Adventure Orange will make it’s third apperance at the upcoming Holiday 2011 event. When we held our first show back in December of 2010 we realized we needed to get The Adventure Orange there, not only because they make amazing handmade items that we knew customers would love, but they also set the tone for our events by producing do it yourself, handmade, quality, unique, local goods! They are also active in the community and support local artists by offering individual and group classes for those who are anxious to learn a new craft. It is this combination that embodies the Handmade City spirit. When we think of HMC and what kind of art/craft we want to help promote The Adventure Orange definitely is one of the first that comes to mind. We are happy yo have them, happy to promote them and happy that so many shoppers will be taking home their creations this Holiday Season!
The Adventure Orange is a D.I.Y. cooperative started in 2007, by Anne Brown. They were located in the heart of Downtown East Moline up until recently and can now be found in the Village of East Davenport selling clothing, fine art, jewelry, furniture, accessories and other wonderful handmade things. (They also have two in-store seamstresses and offer individual and group classes in many craft areas.. Nov’11 class list HERE) We kind of like to call them the Q.C.D.I.Y.Q. or Quad Cities do it yourself queens!
